‘In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue’
___ [ MOONLIGHT ] is a triumphant achievement. I like films to surprise, challenge my beliefs, and make me a bit uneasy, and it does just that. A triptych narrative about coming of age.
“We are not all Chiron, nor do we need to be to appreciate his story.. Jenkins has created a person and a work that forces you to sit with it, in your thoughts, in the quiet, until you can’t help but take Chiron with you.” ___
I love to see black people as works of art on the silver screen. “Fuck Your Ethnicity,” your creed, your money, your sexual orientation, your labels, fuck the whole lot of them! They build these walls to prevent us from learning from one another. Some realized a long time ago how dangerous this can be; and we played/play into it. Smarten up!
“Moonlight is a character study rendered with aching tenderness, a portrait of how the smallest kindness and the biggest cruelties can stay with a person in ways he or she doesn’t even fully realize.” -R35
